IWH is excited to be embarking on a second project. We are in the permitting stages of a development on the Cemetery Road in Stonington. The site is within walking distance of downtown Stonington and will be the location of our next phase of year-round rentals.

This development will house six 1-bedroom apartments and six 2-bedroom apartments in three identical buildings. These energy-efficient units will serve members of our community employed in all sectors of island trades and businesses, and will be a stepping stone for island workers, providing them with an affordable and steady year-round rental.

The purchase of the property was made possible by Island Workforce Housing's new Acquisition Fund, initiated by a generous gift from Michele Janin and Tom Linebarger.

We are compiling a great team for the project: architect John Gordon, landscape architect Sam Coplon, surveyor Due North, Maine-based modular home builder KBS Builders, with more partners to come.

With this key purchase and significant due diligence work already completed, IWH is planning and fundraising, in hopes of beginning construction in fall/winter 2025.

Building on the success of our first development on Sunset Crossroad in Deer Isle, Island Workforce Housing is in the midst of a $2.3 million dollar Capital Campaign for Thurlow’s Ridge.

There are no state or federal funding resources available for rental housing serving middle-income households. Island Workforce Housing relies entirely on the generosity of private donors, town voters, and local businesses. We appreciate everyone who has already helped us get beyond the 75% point of this campaign!
