IWH is excited to be embarking on a second project. We are under construction on a development on Cemetery Road. The site is within walking distance of downtown Stonington and will be the location of our next 12 units of year-round rental apartments.

These energy-efficient residences will serve members of our community employed in all sectors of island trades and businesses, and will be a stepping stone for island workers, providing them with an affordable and steady year-round rental.

The purchase of the property was made possible by Island Workforce Housing's new Acquisition Fund, initiated by a generous gift from Michele Janin and Tom Linebarger.

We have a great team for the project: General Contractor Rich Marshall Carpentry; Sitework Adams Landscaping; concrete by Oliver Cousins Foundations and Jake Gaspar of Island Forms; plumbing by Percy L. Brown and Son; electrical by Affordable Electric; modular home builder KBS Builders; architect John Gordon; landscape architect Sam Coplon; surveyor Due North; and many more great local/regional partners.

The modular units for all three buildings have begun to arrive and are being installed during the second and third weeks of December. We expect to open applications in March, and have tenants in the buildings in Summer 2026!

Building on the success of our first development on Sunset Crossroad in Deer Isle, Island Workforce Housing is nearing the end of a $2.3 million dollar Capital Campaign for Thurlow’s Ridge.

There are no state or federal funding resources available for rental housing serving middle-income households. Island Workforce Housing relies entirely on the generosity of private donors, town voters (through third party funding requests), and local businesses. We appreciate everyone who has already helped us get beyond the 85% point of this campaign!

Like Oliver’s Ridge, Thurlow’s Way will be financially self-sustaining after the development is built. This means that the costs of property management, maintenance, debt service on the mortgage, and savings for future repairs are all covered by rental income.

Additional FAQs forthcoming! Check back here soon.
